hi there, I got this nagging problem I want to see if anyone has a solution for.When I'm on computerA (running W2008 in DomainA) attempts to connect to a Network Share on computerB (running Vista SP1 in DomainB), I get the error "The specified server cannot perform the requested operation". DomainA and DomainB do not have any AD trust relationships. In the past, it would just prompt me for user credentials and I would enter the user creds for DomainB so I can gain access to the share. If I reboot computerB and attempt the operation again on computerA, it works fine. The network share is \\computerB.company.int\public and the Share has Everyone-Read. I try to map a drive from computerA to computerB to that location (or any location..I even tried the administration share), I get that error. I even tried from another machine in DomainA and I still get the same issue.I'm at a lost...any ideas what might be causing it? My desired behavior (and this worked before) is when I attempt to access a network share on computerB from computerA, I would be prompted for user creds and go right in...I don't even get prompted for user creds.thanks in advance.

Hi, Thank you for posting here. To narrow down the issue, could you please check whether the issue also happens in the following situation? 1. A Windows XP/Windows Server 2003 in Domain A accesses the share on the problematic Windows Vista client on Domain B. 2. A client in Domain B accessed the share on the problematic Windows Vista client on Domain B. Please also check whether there is Event 2017/2021 that indicates the failure in allocation non-paged pool in Event Viewer. If you are not sure about that, you may collect the MPS report on the problematic Windows Vista client and send to us, we will help you check it: Collect the MPS Report: ============== 1. Download the MPS Report Tool from the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=cebf3c7c-7ca5-408f-88b7-f9c79b7306c0&displaylang=en 2. After the download is complete, double-click this "MPSRPT_PFE.EXE" file. When you are prompted "Include the MSINFO32 report?", please input Y to continue. After a while, a CAB file will be generated. 3. Open My Computer, browse to the "%systemroot%\MPSReports\PFE\CAB" folder. You can find the CAB file above. Please use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) to upload the file and share its URL with us. If you can see the Event 2017/2021 logged on the Windows Vista client, you may try to increase the amount of non-paged pool and check how everything works: Note: please perform a full system backup first. Hi everyone.. I have the same issue here.. I’m in a windows server 2008 domain network we have a mix of windows vista SP2 and XP SP3. I share files in my Vista client and every other client are able to access them after letting the Vista running for a day or two, XP client can no more access the vista Client and I get the error massage “The specified server cannot perform the requested operation” and they will be able to access the Vista only after I restart the Vista. Please note that other vista PC can still access the Vista client and after I installed a couple of windows 7 clients they also had no issue accessing the vista client. Thanks a lot.

I still have the same issue but I just don't have time to research it (not a big enough pain for me yet) but I would love to know how to fix it because I constantly get it. Whats different from Masees comment is that I'm trying to go across two untrusted domains. (Vista computer sits in DomianA and the W2008 server sits in DomainB).
